No really get over it

The General Assembly voted this weekend to express "profound regret" for the state's participation in slavery. Slavery ended in the US in 1865. If my calculations are correct that means there is not ONE person alive today that participated in slavery in the US.

Was slavery right? Absolutely not. I will not apologize for something that I had no part of.

Do I think we as America should forget slavery ever existed? Absolutely not. It is a part of our history. A part of our history we have learned from and grown from.

I find it appalling that we feel we need to apologize for something that happened well over a 100 years ago. What more do Americans need to do to pay for slavery? And while we are talking about Americans.. Are African Americans also apologetic that slavery happened as Americans, or is it just the mean white people that should be sorry? Oh and when is Africa going to apologize for giving their citizens up for slavery?

Candle in the Wind

Was she a candle in the wind? Perhaps not to some, not to me. More importantly I believe she was to someone. Really this is just a vent.

The jokes were all over the place yesterday over the death of Anna Nicole Smith. I heard a dj ask if Elton John would once again revamp his song Candle in the Wind over this passing. Worse I heard someone during the prep for the news conferance outside the hospital say "Anna Nicole, Anna Nicole, making a living off of Anna Nicole". I don't know who that guy was, but if his statement was one ounce true, perhaps his little dittie will be his closing song as well.

Now don't get me wrong Anna was not an idol of mine. She was a mess, no doubt. She was also a tragedy. She came from nothing to being famous or infamous.. not sure which one. She was a top model. For many of us that is not a goal in our lives but for others a dream come true. For me Anna was someone I cheered for. I really hoped the best. She had so much potential and then it was gone, then you would see a ray of light, then a thunderstorm, a ray of light, then a hurricane.

Her life and death were a tragedy but by no means a joke.
